Our History
At GADx we have the experience and the technology to create lateral flow tests and platform developments for pressing health needs. Founded by one of the creators of the Clearblue pregnancy test in 2003, we have participated in over 150 research projects with partners from over 12 countries.
We are the lateral flow pioneer and the partner you are looking for at any, or every, stage of development.
2023
GADx celebrates 20 years of expertise in lateral flow development. Emergency use authorization from US FDA for over-the-counter COVID antigen testing. The IT LEISH test was launched to serve the east African programme to eliminate visceral leishmaniasis.
2021
The company has developed an increasingly broad global health portfolio in partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, FIND, and many others. Global Access Health’s acquisition was designed to protect the assets and capacity at GADx so that addressing global health challenges can be prioritised with a new and unique business model.
2018
Secured investment for North American expansion and commercial partnering. Established US HQ near Boston, MA.

2016
Together with The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Centre for Advanced Rapid Diagnostics (CARD) was established to develop the next generation of rapid point-of-care platform with transformational sensitivity, performed at low cost and without a reader.
2014
After an Alere leadership and strategy change, the company was divested but was brought back to independence through an investor buy-in and management buy-back. The technology, personnel, facilities, capability, intellectual property, and deep product pipeline stayed with the company.

2009
The company was acquired by Alere and set up as a dedicated R&D unit with a broad scope but with a priority focus on respiratory disease.
2003
The company was co-founded in 2003 by Dr Paul Davis. With a deep knowledge of lateral flow technology, Paul Davis was the only remaining practicing scientist from the original technology development team (Davis, May, and Prior – 1989), which led to the creation of UniPath and the Clearblue brand for home pregnancy testing.

Frequent testing is invaluable and so it is vital to find ways to drive down the cost of kits and increase production levels. As a social enterprise, GADx can transform this process because it ‘breaks the link’ of ‘having to make profit for shareholders’.
